Homemade Halloween Costumes for Kids: Easy, Fun, and Awesome!

The imagination of kids is full of fantasies, especially during Halloween. Aside from being artistic, their imaginative thinking helps them to design their desired costume for a Halloween party. They can dress up as a pirate, a la Jack Sparrow, or perhaps the loveliest little angel. Halloween, as the second most popular holiday of the year, gives every kid a chance to fantasize and be that one night a hero, cowgirl, witch, or anything that suits their fantasy. Truly, Halloween is a great way to create new ideas for learning new crafting skills.

There are various shops and discount stores where you can shop for ready-made costumes. However, two main disadvantages are being pointed out for purchasing off-the-rack costumes over Homemade Halloween costumes. First, during trick-or-treats, kids may see other child wearing the same costume; he or she might feel slightly disheartened while in homemade Halloween costume, you are sure that your kid’s costume is one of a kind. For girls, you can embellish with feathers, sequins, beads, lace, flowers and such lavishness. You can always help your kids to decide what they want to be by giving them general costume themes, such as movie or cartoon characters. You can probably make suggestions when you have a good idea whether they’d rather be funny, pretty or scary.

The appreciation for unusual and a bit more bizarre Halloween costumes grows as the kids get older. Usually, group of teens wear the same costume to make a statement during trick-or-treating. You can let them decide on their own the costume they want to wear (within your ethical values).

Once your child has decided on what costume to wear, it’s time to shop. If you are an experienced seamstress, you may not even need a pattern. When you choose whether to buy or make your kid’s Halloween costume, make sure the fabric is fire-retardant, for safety’s sake. The most successful homemade Halloween costumes for kids are those made with the add-ons they choose, not you. Talk about original!

Perhaps the best reason in favor of homemade Halloween costumes for kids is that you get to spend some time, enjoying and indulging your kid’s fantasies.
